What's your personality "schtick"?

I was on site for a project. I like to be prepared with chat topics, so the week before I look up all the other team members' bios. One of the guys "friends" me out of the blue and chats me up online all week... "What do you do, blah blah." Nothing special. He seems nice. Mellow. Comfortable with himself. I don't think anything of it.

But during in-person intros he tells our host, "Oh, we already know each other. We're not strangers to one another." and winks with a big old smile.

Obviously he's being ridiculous. But our host raises an eyebrow and looks at him, then me, and says, "Oh... Really?" There were a few snickers and smirks from the other team members.

I shrug, shake my head and walk off to get some tea. I don't come back till it's time to start the project.

Later on, one of the girls approaches me and asks, "What's with your whole schtick?" with a circular hand gesture, looking me up and down. I don't know what she's talking about. Apparently walking away made the guy more prone to teasing and flirting with me, but I tuned him out 110% the whole day to complete the project.

"Schtick" os just a routine. I don't know what kind of routine she thought I was using. I've never met any of these people before in my life aside from the host/recruiter and the short professional chats with the flirty guy.

He was definitely trying to play up an exaggerated connection for attention, and walking away was actually the smartest thing you could have done it showed you weren't going to play along with his dynamic.

Thanks. I'm always surprised when a fellow my age or a smidge older acts like that. It's pretty childish in my opinion.

Completely agree. Age definitely doesn't guarantee maturity! Some people just never outgrow high school tactics.
