Is it wrong or unattractive for a boyfriend to ask his girlfriend for flowers or gifts?

Apparently when it was nearing my birthday a few months ago, I told my girlfriend (ex now) that I wish to have flowers as a birthday present. She seemed weirded out that she told me "If I was a real man, I would not expect anything in return to what I provide even if it's my celebration.", but the thing is, throughout our relationship, I was the only one initiating convos and dates.

I asked her, what's wrong with a man expressing what he wants in a relationship too? And it came to a point where we fought, until we didn't talk for several days.

My birthday came and she never bothered greeting me because as she was out with her friends that day, so I texted her candidly and never got a greeting. I waited until 12 midnight, and she never greeted. Days later, I texted her to tell how hurt I was, but she just replied with a breakup text saying that I've been replaced. She also told me that she cannot see herself being with a manchild and asked me to stop bugging her.

Was I wrong for wishing for reciprocation even as a suitor?
