Girls that keep their head down when walking past a guy?

Question

I see girls do this all the time. I'll be walking and some girl will be walking in the opposite direction and she will look down until she passes me. As soon as she passes me she'll put her head back up again. So my questions are:

Do they do this because they're shy or just not interested and don't want to give the wrong impression? Do you do this with every guy/girl or just guys that you might find attractive?

You know, I'm starting to think it doesn't really matter.
It could mean either interest+shyness or disinterst+don't want you to bother them. Always go with the latter.

I don't think guys should spend time to try and cultivate skill as to discern when it's the former or the latter.
What good does that do? Then shy people never have to come out of their shell and be a little brave, because someone they like will find them eventually?

I suppose shy people can get around it by hooking up online and get dates that way, but that's even worse. Now you have two painfully shy people who moves in together, hides in the house and compound their social phobias. What kind of a life is that?

when girls walk past me with their head down or looking off somewhere else, zero eye contact, I take that as total disinterest. sometimes I might try to say hi, but if she's looking like she's doesn't want to be talked to, or approached I won't bother.

for the girls that say they are shy or its because of a guy she's crushing over, I would think they would give a few glances or smile or something, but I understand some of them may have low self esteem...i have known girls that said they liked me but I had NO clue they really did.

I've noticed this a lot on campus. I actually find myself doing it every once in awhile. Usually, yes, I personally tend to duck my head when I see a particularly attractive guy, or the guy I'm specifically crushing on; I don't want to draw attention to myself checking him out.

Other times, it seems to be a reflex. No one wants to make eye contact for some reason. Certain people consider it awkward. But it most cases, I'd say that they're afraid to get caught staring at you.

I do that because I don't want to make someone feel awkward. Also, I don't know what they are thinking and I have low self esteem. I'll try to keep my head up but then I'll think I  look ridiculous or retarded and as I put myself down I'll give in and lower my head. I don't know if anyone else does it for this reason but that's why I do. Sorry if this didn't help :)

Usually if the guys is kinda cute I might look down so he doesn't notice me looking at him. But I'm also kinda shy so i also feel like the less eye contact I make with people the less likely they will be to try to talk to me. I'm kinda socially awkward at times...

I do that because I want to see where Im walking at.
I never lower my head when I see a guy more so if he is attractive and I am interested. Like why would I lower my head and miss seeing his gorgeous face? Girls who do this are shy and I am not one of them.

It could be a lot of things. Fear, dislike, not interested, etc. It may have nothing to do with the guy at all. I can't look at anyone when I'm walking alone, it just feels insanely awkward and makes my social anxiety go nuts. I look at the ground when I walk unless someone is with me to focus my attention on.

Ya I do this so times to sometimes it is because I find them attractive but other times it is because of the culture I was brought up in I was taught men are stronger bigger more powerfully then you and all these things and sometimes that will pop up every now and then and I just feel really intimidated so I put my head down and I don’t really know exactly why but I know it has something to do with that but that is weird so probably not all girls are like that lol

I do that instinctively when I sense the presence of attractive males, because I'm so shy I don't want them to notice me or notice that I get excited out of attraction because I think it might bother them or they might find it funny or something because I'm not very pretty and I feel stupid. It makes me feel safer keeping my head down, it's as if they can't see I exist lol :'(

Guy or girl, people do this because they can't handle extended eye contact. It's a submissive trait. But if you do hold your gaze and do so with a smile, you'll usually get a smile or hi back; even from a stranger.

Um no I do it because I am not interested at all and don't want him to even think the remote possibility that I'm looking at him or am interested in him.

I usually do this when I pass by shady-looking guys if I am walking alone.
