What kind of eye contact am I looking for at bars?

I don't go clubbing or bar hopping much, that's not how I usually meet women. But I'm starting to do it more so that I get more comfortable in those environments.

Tonight I had a few looks from some girls at the bar I think... anyway one girl we made eye contact maybe 3 or 4 times and it lasted a few seconds. The other girl, she was talking with her friends and laughing and having a good time, but 2 or 3 times our eyes met for like a second and she would look back at her friends.

The first one I think she was checking me out or looking at me because of how long she looked and how often, but the second girl? She looked several times but it was only for a second, no more. Was that just a coincidence that our eyes met like that a few times? What kind of signals do you look for in bars/clubs to know a girl wants you to approach her?

It depends.

1 -- Some girls are bold and will just walk up to the guy they find attractive. (Watch those girls; they probably do that a LOT...)

2 -- Others find an excuse to sort of migrate closer to where you're standing and look over to see if you're taking the hint. You might see her crack a smile if she catches you looking back. This is pretty standard.

3 -- There are the "wallflowers" who look at you from across the room and expect you to get the hint, fight past the crowds and possibly work your way past her throng of friends to make basic introductions and as her if she wants to dance/drink/chat/etc.

I've never tried approach one in that sort of setting, but some combo of 2 and 3 have proven successful.

If it happens more than once (eye contact that is) I doubt it's coincidental. When I'm out at a bar with friends, if I find a guy attractive, I make a point to make eye contact with him multiple times, and hold it for longer. They were both probably checking you out ; )

If she wants you to come to her, she'll probably be making eye contact and/or smiling at you as the Mr. Glamphotog has said. Also look for open body language, as in she's got most of her body facing your direction.

usually lots of glances mean she is showing you its OK to talk to her next time you catch a girl doing that you could smile and she if she does the same then you could approach with some confidence.

Continuous eye contact and/or smile. If you're still not sure, move around the bar and see if she continues to "find" you.

does it have to be continuous like she's staring you down? What about if every so often your eyes meet and she looks away after a second, but it keeps happening. Coincidence or is she shy?

It doesn't have to be continuous. If both of you keep making eye contact with each other, that's a pretty good sign.

she keeps looking at you. believe me there is plenty of things to look at at a bar. if she keeps coming back to you, then you know she's interested

She was probably into you. We girls like to make eye contact but not for long, because we don't want to seem easy for you
