How much eye contact should I have when talking to someone?

Or just saying hi or bye or whatever? I have no social skills. I always look into nothingness then people get weirded out but if I look them into their eyes they think I'm flirting with them. So what's normal then? Help

I had trouble with that too. But mine was the opposite. I had trouble looking people in the eye when speaking to them.


My best advice is to keep a mental timer in your head and look away when the time is up. Make sure to blink, gesture with your hands for an object you are talking about or describing.


For example, I am speaking to you about my latest book. The book speaks about monsters. I would blink often and use my hands to describe the monsters or show you a pic of them on my phone.

There should be some eye contact but it is usually brief. You don't get any sense that this is a bit too prolonged and look away?
