Constant eye contact during conversation?

Me and this guy have flirted in the past but nothing has happened (we live quite far apart).

When we are having a conversation, we maintain constant eye contact with each other and I don’t have this with anyone else but him!!! This is constant eye contact, no looking away or breaking it. I’ve tried to watch him when he’s speaking to someone else and he doesn’t look to do it with everyone but I could be wrong.

Does this mean anything? Sign of interest maybe? I know I purposely maintain eye contact with him.

It's kinda creepy, actually, but if it works for the two of you, go for it. In general, constant eye-contact means different things in different context and cultures. It can be perceived as defiance, challenge, honesty, desire, focused attention, or even myopia or deafness.

This is when we’re having a personal conversation together, but I don’t mean talking about our feelings! I just mean having a conversation about our likes/dislikes etc. We’ve shared a lot of eye contact over the months (a lot when not in conversation and just staring at each other). But I can really maintain eye contact with him in conversation very easily and he does the same

The thing about eye contact is that it is so different for everyone. Different cultures and upbringings effect the use of it. Different social and other disorders can make it hard to either maintain or break off eye contact. And furthermore, personality can change it too. I find it hard to even look at someone for a prolonged period of time. My mind is just busy, I will be listening but staring at a wall or just above your head, or my eyes will dart from one place to another

Yea I know what you mean. We’ve shared a lot of really intense eye contact in the past, when not even speaking. He has locked eyes with me while he was walking across a room before (this was after we hadn’t spoken for a few months, we had a bit of a fall out), it’s just so hard to know if it means anything or not.

But I know that if my eyes dart from different points of action that are all part of that person, ie their hands, eyelids, legs, anything that is moving then chances are I'm into them. But even then it's not a for sure thing

That intense eye contact even out of discussion would likely imply interest of some form. But that doesn't need to be positive interest or romantic or sexual in any way. Could just be thinking about an interaction he had with you or trying to figure you out

Yea... I’m open to that. I don’t want to be seeing just what I want to see. What if the eye contact also happened when we weren’t speaking? Locking eyes, glances towards each other while holding the gaze for a short while

No, although I have thought that it would end up there on a few occasions in the past. And then it hasn’t and things started to become very awkward and we started to have a lot of friction in our encounters

I know I was just hoping that the eye contact etc all meant that there was some interest there. As I say, our relationship statuses are both complicated so we couldn’t get together anyway
