Playing hard to get is usually something more deliberate.
You have more of a case of plain old shyness, I think.
I'm afraid, if he likes you (or wondered if you like him), then you avoiding him will make him wonder if he did something wrong or if you are avoiding him because you don't like him.
As far as I know, girls avoid guys for one of two reasons:
1. They like the guy but are shy.
2. They don't like the guy, but are afraid he likes them.
It's nearly impossible to discern these two cases, but if you are physically avoiding him, most guys (including myself) would conjecture #2. That's not good for you, so try to find some way to send him a sign that you're not purposely avoiding him because you don't like him.

you pretty much answered your own question. I would stop what you're doing though. the guy probably thinks you don't like him and might be feeling down about himself. if you keep this up you're probably gonna ruin any chance you have with him (if you haven't already...9 weeks?!?!?!)
Oh my! This happened to me, I was so shy so I just sent him an email saying I wasn't trying to play games, and I just didn't know what to say to him. Probably not the best move but I felt a lot better after that.
You gotta act normal around him like nothing happened

Well honestly, he probably feels like you are rude or cold. I've been on the guys side when a girl was rude or cold to me and then her friends told me later that she liked me.. I was like "what?"
