"Grow some balls" is insulting to women. Why do so many women degrade themselves?

'grow some balls' reinforces the notion than to be anything other than male means you are lacking something. "grow some balls"/"you are such a p.ussy" equals "be a man"/"you're such a woman."

whenever a person admires a brave girl, he says something like: "wow, she got big balls". calling a man/woman a woman is degrading and humiliating whereas being called a man is something to be proud of. it's kind of sad even women feel this way.

why do so many women degrade themselves?

It's a figure of speech, however that doesn't make it OK to use. Common language only stays common for as long as it's acceptable in society. It's not so long ago that terms we now consider to be outrageous were commonly used and accepted as the  norm. I agree with the questioner; absolutely it is a derogatory turn of phrase and like all forms of derisory language can have a harmful effect on society. The younger version of the comment is - "Stop being a girl" often followed by the accusation that "you're a wuss" - the two statements interchange which give the impression that girl = wuss and neither quality is acceptable in the male fraternity. As a young boy, being told to stop being (or behaving like) a girl, places the ideas that girls are, in fact, lesser or lower forms of human being. As for the man who states that eunuch's are societies lowest form, whilst simultaneously stating that without a womb and breasts a woman is still a women (they're only for show, after all!) - surely that puts women below "even" eunuchs. I wonder if this person would suggest that a man with no legs is a lower form of human being than a man with two able legs? We can no longer describe you by your color, even though you are, in fact, black, brown, white etc. We can no longer describe you by your race, even though you are, in fact, American, British, Asian etc. We can no longer describe you by your abilities or (dis)abilities and yet we still tolerate language that degrades the value of one sex above the other. Come on people wise up; we're different in many ways but equal overall.

It's a joking reference, and I doubt very many people think it's as degrading as you do.  It's like telling a dude to get the sand out of his vag, it's not telling him he's a girl it's telling him to stop acting like a little bitch.  While it may be derogatory, it's hardly insulting unless you are really insecure about your manliness.  Don't let stupid stuff get to you so much.

I think that's more of an American term. I'm English and it's not really said over here, so you would think about the meaning more when you hear/say it. So yes, if it's said here, I supposed some people might find it degrading, but I quite like the idea of men being strong :D

Grow some balls" or put "your balls on the line" mean's only something to men. For a man to put his balls or manhood on the lines means something only in battle when a man give up his life. Men are stronger then women, and it is those balls that give him strength, but ironically those balls can be easily taken away from him in a fight or serious injury.

P.uss , by the way defines a cat, the way they run away or hide in fear. Yes being called a puss is definite degrading to both men and women. However society lets a women hide in fear, but an man is a wus if he loses in battle.

The reason it is insulting to women is because a man without testicles is a eunuch, the lowest person in society. Women have no such vunarable l parts defining her feminity, thus a woman without ovaries is still a woman, a woman without breasts is still a woman. A woman's organs only show power, beauty and strength, but a man's balls show both power and weakness. So how it is used, on a woman, shows what other men or woman think of her.

My guess would be that balls are more appealing to girls then guts. It has the same meaning but guts are gross to many girls. =P

I don't find it degrading or insulting to women at all.  To me, it just means that person is telling you to stop being such a wimp.  It's a figure of speech and I take it as such.
