Why is a single man that has a cat creepy?

My sister says that I'm not allowed to get a cat because I'm single and will be considered creepy. Her friends that were with her concurred with that, and were making one of their other friends that wasn't there for being a creep with a cat. I don't get this, please help.

There have been a lot of psychological studies/surveys that look at common personality traits of dog people and cat people. I don't know how much weight you want to put in any of them, but generally they say things like:

Dog people are more extroverted, sociable, confident, dominate, humorous, and easy going, active. You might find these personality traits fall in line with a lot of things women tend to like in men. Someone who is confident and can own a room, that will approach her, that funny and easy going might catch her eye.

Cat people then to be more introverted, spend time alone, are less confident, are more passive, are nit picky, homebody, etc. These things are probably a little less desirable to women.

That's not to say any of them classify you just because you have a cat, but people tend to favor animals that fit their personality and lifestyle.

Yes, it's OK for a single woman, but not a single man That said, single people often develop an unhealthy fixation on their pets; both women and men. They CAN be creepy, but it's only guys who seem to get the label!

i wouldn't consider it creepy unless you yourself were actually creepy and then getting a cat would make it worse for me for some reason. If you're a normal guy who wants a pet that doesn't require a lot of your time a cat is perfect. I think it's mean to get a dog and not have a lot of time to spend with it they need a lot more companionship than cats do. Id think a guy who had a full time job and maybe went to school or something to be kind of a bad pet owner if he had a dog he had to keep locked up all the time cause he was never home. plus with a cat you can grab your coat and run out and leave town for a few days if you want as long as you leave food, water and a clean litter box.

cats are just easier and give you some company.

I wouldn't know why that would be considered creepy. Only the thought of crazy catlady comes into mind but you're not over 60 and insane I think so...If you want a cat, go get a cat! So what some people think that's creepy, you should'nt stop doing things or buying things you want just because somewhere somebody has a problem with it.

When I move out and I'll live by myself, I'm getting myself a cat, if that's creepy or not and I'm single too.

They're just being silly.

The stigma is that only older, lonely, ugly women have cats: (see the term: "Cat Lady"). I think the girls are just making a reference about that... that if you have a cat and you're single, you're on the road to being a "Cat Dude" or something.

If a single guy has a dog, that's one thing- Dogs require walking. They are social animals. They will get out of the house (they don't have any other choice.)

In short, they will not become an isolated shut-in, talking to their dog all the time.

Cats are not social. They are quite capable of leaving the house in the morning once fed, and then returning at dusk. They do not require the human to bring them out on walks. They are anti-social.

Cats are typically the pet of the house-bound invalid or Old Age pensioner.

And that is why a single guy with a cat, is a creepy loser.

I don't get it either. What's creepy about you being single and having a cat? To me, nothing. It means that you're caring enough to take care of another creature, which I would think is a good thing. Don't listen to them. They're just being weird.

I have 12 cats and a dog. Some from my ex-gf. I still find my cats far more affectionate than any girlfriend I've ever dated and I'd rather be loyal to my cats who love me than some women who will judge me based on some odd speculation that I'm "weird" or "creepy". Guess the cats get the loyalty and unconditional love they deserve while the women settle for guys who sleep with their sisters!

I guess because in some people's minds cats are feminine, like a crazy cat lady type thing! I wouldn't see it if a single guy had a cat as creepy, I would find it super sensitive. So, if that's the way you like your man...it's no problem!

That's the first I've heard about that. I'm a cat person, so I would love to find a guy who has a cat! Dog people, in general, think cats are creepy because they are like ninjas. Ha, ha.
