Can shy people be waiters/waitresses?

Do you think a shy person could make a good waitress? Or only really outgoing, extroverted people?

I am shy but want to try it because 1. I think it would be good money (the tips I mean-I'm pretty, and feel the patrons would like me because I smile a lot and am really polite and nice) and 2. it might help me get out of my shell a bit?

If I'm polite, nice, and deliver good service, do you think I could do it, despite not being super outgoing and chatty like a lot of waiters and waitresses?

Doing a good job is what counts. Service today is not what it used to be. This may also be a way to become more outgoing. I was very shy in retail for years and got over it by forcing myself to be more outgoing. It's a little like acting

I was a server for 2 summers and I'm incredibly shy. It was tough but I enjoyed it and it made me a little better at talking to people.
