Will a guy get jealous and possessive over a girl he's not interested in?

My guy friend claims he's not attracted to me, doesn't want to get into anything with me but gets upset whenever I hang out with my other male friends; as in whenever I'm talking or joking with one and he notices, he'll literally walk over and interrupt our conversation. He will also make rude comments if he ever overhears me talking about another guy with one of my girlfriends and whenever we go out, constantly keeps his eyes on me when he thinks I don't notice.

So just curious, is he interested or just maintaining "ownership" because he knows I liked him at some point? I know he's had a really bad relationship just two years ago and he once told me he's scared of ever falling in love again- don't know if that has to do with anything though. Opinions?

I would say almost 99% of the time, a man who gets jealous over a female friend (you) talking to other guys means he secretly likes you. I would actually say in your case, it is particularly strong.

If a guy has zero interest in you, he won't really care how many men you talk to. If a guy ends up hurting your feelings, we simply chalk it up as part of the process of finding a boyfriend.

However, if we like the girl, there is a hidden agenda. Even though he won't act upon his feelings, that doesn't mean that he wants you mingling with other guys.

I would say his feelings are pretty clear.

At the same time, it's flattering, but also a red flag. He has demonstrated that he is a very jealous person. People who are jealous often have a short fuse and more prone to violence vs someone who doesn't get jealous. I would consider that, should you ever find yourself in a relationship with him.

I don't get possessive over anyone I'm not in love with.

If he's generally a possessive person, it might very well indicate that he doesn't need to have feelings for you in order to feel possessive. Especially since you liked him at one point, even if he didn't like you back, he enjoyed the attention/ego boost he got from it and doesn't want to share that with anyone else.
My opinion is, though, that it shouldn't matter whether he likes you or not. His possessiveness is really not a good thing at all, so if you're even the slightest interested in him still, please don't pursue him. If he doesn't like you back, it'll be awkward. And if he does like you back and you do get into a relationship, I can guarantee you that his possessiveness will drive you mad. Literally not worth it.
