Why do guys try to get a reaction out of girls?

READ FIRST: This guy I once worked with do this (sometimes). I remember he asked me what college I attended (even though I told him before) so I told him. Then he said, "well they asked me to come participate but I'm not sure..." then I said I would go if he went and he said, "well, it's just so far away and etc." So I'm thinking to myself you asked me where I go just so you can say you're not going? So I realized he was trying to get a reaction out of me. Another time he was purposely being a jerk and I called him out on it when he said "I like that you fight back."

Lol wtf that's weird. However I do, do the "idk about going to... Blah blah blah" because usually it means I'm unsure about what to do, so maybe he is unsure if he wants to attend that college or unsure he even wants to go to college. Hopefully I've helped in some way! Lol
