Why does this guy always chew gum?

Lol I know this may sound weird but whenever I'm with him he is forever chewing gum, is it to show confidence or something?

Chewing gum (or eat food) is good if you’re doing something that would normally make you nervous, as it tricks a primal part of your brain into thinking you couldn't be in danger because you’re eating.
Maybe he chews gum for this reason, or maybe (and more probable) he does it because he likes it.
