Girls: a guy mails you a handwritten letter, would you rather he told you he sent a surprise or say nothing?

So, randomly felt like writing a letter to this girl I like and mailed it. We talk every now and then. Not really sure where I stand, but I know I like her, so I guess that's all that matters. No love letter, just a "thinking about you and wondering how you're doing" letter (asking how she is; talking about some stuff that I've been up to; telling her she's fun and cute; basically normal boring stuff).

Girls (or guys):

1) Good idea or bad? (I think it was pretty smooth, and that she'll love it.)

2) Should I tell her I sent her a gift and make her anticipate it? Or, should I just not say anything so she'll receive it unexpectedly one day? (Leaning towards not saying anything, making it a surprise.)

Well there's two considerations:

1) she may have a boyfriend and feel totally flattered by this gesture but is committed to him

or

2) She's probably mindboggled, was this message anonymous? If so, she probably doesn't know what to think, and you should definately tell her it was you, and if your to shy, you shouldntve sent it in the first place. Or if she knows its you, it could be either what I said before about the boyfriend thing, or she's just not into you. Sorry if any of that sounded blunt, but its true ^.^

Maybe my question came off wrong. She hasn't gotten it yet. She'll know it was me when she gets it. I signed my name to it. I know she'll love it. Not to sound cocky, but she adores me. :) Just asking if girls like the whole handwritten letter thing and whether they like the anticipation or just the random surprise. I think I'll just wait and let her find it in the mail randomly one day.

I think this is a fantastic idea! Such an incredible gesture!

Adds a personal touch that says I took the time to write a REAL letter... that you were in my thoughts... without all the declatory sentiments of a love letter.

I just started dating someone that sent me a postcard with very similar language as your letter while he was on a cross country road trip. For me, that meant much as I am sure your crush will realize the same.

Yeah, girls like that stuff, but guys aren't into it as much. Now, if you got him his favorite video game, he'd love it, just as much as girls love getting handwritten letters. :)

I think it was a great idea. First of all, it lets her know you were thinking of her. And second it shows her that you’ll take the time to sit down and write to her. Very sweet! Also let it be a surprise. If it takes a while to get to her( and she knows it`s coming) the longer it take the more she`ll just wish it`ll show up and the sweet meaning behind the letter will be lost. But if you let it be a surprise, when she gets the letter it will be that much better.

Hmm, I recently just sent a guy a letter as well... I decided to tell him that I had sent some mail... but didn't tell him to who or about what. When he got it he wasn't online but when he came on he asked me about something I had written. If he would have written one back, I would have liked to have known... but for all I know he sent one as a surprise.

Anything old fashioned, taking a step back from all the technology is a good thing, in my opinion. :)
