He tripped me up in front of everyone?

I was seeing a guy for a couple months we've been friends over a year... but he abruptly ended it saying he just wanted to be friends and remains. He's been ignoring my messages which are just general chitchat... he's really close to my best friend they always speak. Feel things are awkward between us and it hurts. Other night we were out me and my friend he talked to her all night teased her... said a few things to me mid convo with her. I caught him staring a lot at me then later on he tripped me up in front of everyone... I was really embarrassed. So I just turned round and pushed him. I don't understand if he's just being really mean to me on purpose or what I don't get it?
