What does the phrase "I trust you" say to a man?

Just told my boyfriend that I trust him, and he acted really shocked on the phone (like a good shock). Although he tends to be a bit of a hypochondriac.

What does saying "I trust you" mean to a guy?

If someone said it to me (and they were in a relationship with me):

I would feel multiple levels of satisfaction and thrill. Knowing that about my partner would make me feel that I am appreciated and that what I am doing is the right thing. If she said it right before sexual acts, I would think she is shy and that the true meaning of "i trust you" is not what she means.
