Guys, why did my crush think I hated him?

So I told my crush I liked him and we were talking about it when he said,"...you kinda caught me off guard I thought you hated me for a while..." What about me made him think that? I mean yeah we teased each other a lot but nothing major. I may have stolen the fish hook off his hat a few times but I always gave it back. So why did he think I hated him?!?

If you come across as shy, it is often misread as wanting to avoid that person because you don't like them. Flirting in such a way that you tease each other, can also be misread as being mean to them. Communication is a far bigger problem in relationships than people realize. Even a loving gesture can be seen as hate filled and spiteful.
