Guy's Behavior

What does it mean when his friends stare and smirks at you?

so there's this guy in my class who i sorta fangirl about.. we have had a few eye contacts but i would always quickly look away so i'm not sure if he looks away too or not. last week, the guy didn't show up to class but his friends were there and they were constantly turning and looking towards where i was sitting (we have 3 classes together and this happens in all classes in the week my crush was absent). and yesterday while waiting outside the class, i passed by them (only his friends, he wasn't there yet) and my friend said they were staring while having this smirk on their faces. and apparently even after i already passed by them, they're eyes were still following to where i was going. then when the guy finally came, we had another eye contact but he was expressionless.. is it a good thing or a bad thing? this staring has happened to me before with a group of guys in my previous school (i move around a lot) but before, i wasn't crushing on any of them and they would still stare and whisper when i pass by... in both cases though, i never/rarely talk to any of these guys and i have never really talked bad about them either. I would say i'm weird but i tend to keep my weirdness among my closest friends only and shy around other people. and I have heard people say im cute/pretty but i personally think im average with not-so-perfect body though (i have short legs). could it be that they're making fun of me? having this happen to me in two schools is making start to be curious and anxious at the same time. could there be something wrong with me? was it something i've done? or how i looked? why are they doing this?
