Depends on the guy. I probably would have been fine with it. At the same time though, most guys probably don't really understand what happens when a girl is on her period. I know it can be a little uncomfortable, trust me I know. I had to explain to a girl why I couldn't have sex with her because of dry skin down there in my pants. When you have dry skin you also have cracked skin and that makes it an easy entrance for STDs. Of course I didn't tell her about the STD part because I didn't want to imply she had STDs, but you get the idea.
Anyway, next time you are going through something like this, just tell him you're going through a lot right now. If he wants to know why, tell him you're on your period and explain to him why this effects your mood swings. If you get worried just give him short and vague sentences, but just enough to make him question the issue no longer...

What Guys Said
I would ask her if there is anything i could do for her to make her feel better :D :-)
I figure that she'll have brand new vaginal walls in about 2 days.
I would ask if there was anything I could do to help.
"Oh, that sucks :S Are you ok?" Then I'll just sit and talk with her, unless she wants to be alone.
My thoughts are, "Nice guy activated: give her ice cream or some other comfort food, find her a heat pack, ask her if she needs Midol."
I would be wondering how would she feel like being on her period. does she feel shy, awkward, conscious, worried that she might be leaking or that she might be smelling. I become quite curious.
That is some normal talk... I'll just ask her if she's okay
I would comfort her if I was single
errrrr... that's normal in gals... LOL
I'd feel sorry for her
