Guys, What does it mean if a guy keeps sending smiley faces?

I met this really sweet guy on an app where you can make friends with people from all around the world and after almost everything I post he says something nice and ends it with a smiley face. This is the first time I've encountered something like this.. I'm a little confused to be honest

Let him know you're there for him, and you want to see him be successful, but never give him money or emoticons in return, or you'll be an enabler.

He wants to show you that he is happy while talking to you. It is hard to show emotions with only words, and this sometimes can lead to misinterpretations.

He's trying to be friendly, maybe a bit overly friendly. Test him a bit with some dark humor or something and see how he reacts.

Probably being nice, probably likes you and doesn't want to offend. I'll send a smiley on rare occasion if I say something sweet or reassuring, but it isn't anywhere near all the time.
