When coming across a really beautiful or pretty girl that they like, some guys can get real nervous - especially if they've never had a relationship before. This is just all down to nerves and confidence, and an insecurity about how to handle things. They are afraid of messing things up, but also wondering what to do/say when they come up to you or you come up to them. You just need to give them some space and time to build that confidence.

To help with easing his nerves, if you're at school/college you could ask to join him when reading at the library or eating at the canteen/common room and just try to make normal conversation with him. It would help ease how he feels about you for sure.

Depending on how long you've known the shy guy, he will only act shy and nervous to a certain level with you and everyone all the time. If he is still the same kind of shy since when you met him, then he's just being nervous because he's still not used to you because you guys aren't exactly close.

Now, if you've been hanging out with this guy for quite a while, and you've been trying to lay the charm down on him but he shys away, then he probably knows and is just nervous about it. Usually shy people aren't used to, or familiar with affection, and if he's never had a girlfriend before, then your probably in luck because he is nervous about the idea.

OH CMON! sorry haha EVERYONE DOES THAT! Both genders trust me. They're just nervous in front of you and they want to impress you so badly that they can't think of anything to say so that leads them into thinking they don't like you. Believe it or not A LOT of guys don't know how to flirt. Heck, I'm not even that good at it. Those guys are the WORST GUYS EVER! -Guys don't take it offensively cause I'm totally head over heals for one right now!- He's emotionally immature, It not a bad thing really, and your guy, if he's just acting uncomfortable, there's lots of hope, Mine flat out ignored me lol :) Anyways its just one of those weird guy things! They've realized that most girls will make a first impression very quickly about somebody and carry those thoughts for a long time. Guys know that whether or not they're interested in a girl is irrelevant to whether or not she'll like him. She'll decide for herself what her anticipation is going to be rather than what she's going to get.

While guys make the same interpretations, they carry more responsibility as to making things happen and get the sole burden of the consequences of that encounter. So many of them are more reluctant to face it.
