How can I get a scholarship, Fashion Design in Italy?

My goal in life is to become a Fashion Designer and to study in Italy Florence, am currently working as a Graphic Designer, I have a degree in graphic design, but Fashion is still my biggest interest and my biggest dream.

i would do anything to follow my dream, but I can't afford it, or I might never be able to afford going, am underpaid and there are way too many graphic designers nowadays so they wouldn't give me more mney and I even if I try to find another job, it wouldn't pay much unless I go somewhere else which I cant, cause its extremely hard.

So I was wondering if any of you know any websites that gives scholarships for non European nor American, in Europe or The United States, am middle eastern actually, from Jordan.

I would really appreciate it if you provide me with any information that id need, thank you

I actually sent an email to one of the institutes last night. asking about scholarships for non EU citizens..

Why does it have to be in florence Italy? Why not find the fashion capital of the USA and study

under an italian fashion designer that has a business say in New York City? Before you have reality jump up and bite you in the rear, I suggest you find someone who has done it already and ask and get their opinion on your so called "dream job" This will certainly confirm or deny your dream's practicality.

I was once young and naive, and wanted to pursue a film study at UCLA, but after finding out I would have to wait 5 years to get in since I was then an out of state student who moved back to Calif. after living 2 in Texas, I instead checked out Columbia a night school . I wisely talked to two graduates one in cinema photography, and broadcasting. They were working as store clerks at a camera store in Costa Mesa CAlif. I wisely decided I did not want my parents spending thousands of dollars for an education that would not even produce a job that would pay more than minimum wage..

If you check the facts you will find now that 40% of graduates from colleges can not find jobs. (Yet many have debts for students loans over $100k). Ask better questions and do you homework before you jump into lifelong impossible to pay back student debt. This country the USA is going into a 2nd great depression, (don't believe me check elliot wave.com or us dogpile.com metasearch and look up economic depression in the USA).

You may find the easiest route to your dreams is get a low paying job in fashion capital of the USA (I assume would be N.Y.C.) and pay your dues over time until you work your way up. That would be within reach, and much more probable to achieve. Then become your own designer and start your own business on the side. No matter what career path you can not avoid paying your dues, contrary to what they tell college students even college graduates have to start at the bottom and pay their dues. No one is going to hire you to be "Head Mucky Muck" just because your went to school. I have a nephew who got a job at a steel company and the only reason they hired him was he was cooperative, did not try to impress anybody, and the hiring manager told him you are the first guy who has come in here and applied and did not try to tell me how to run my business.

Me and my sister were just talking about this. Going to college now is basically the equivalent of attending high school 20 years ago because so many people go. I also talked to a guy who's currently making $700/hr a while back and he told me the best advice I've ever gotten. He basically told me the new way to get ahead of everyone else in today's society.

Okay first of all USA is even harder for me to get anything whether its a scholarship, a job or whatever. I need to get a job first so I could get a working visa.

You guys are forgetting the fact that am Jordanian. which means an 'Arab' would they actually hire me in the united states or wherever?? what am I supposed to do to get a job in N.Y.C ?

Proverbs 3;5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths. Study your bible, pray and seeks God's help and guidance. With this economy there is no "guarantee formula even for Americans" . I missed the fact that you were from the middle east, but everyone is required by God to live their life based on faith, not fear. Abraham father of the jews and arabs pleased GOD by acting on faith.

Your life will have unique challenges, but realize if you want to do fashion that you will have to be somewhere in a big city in some country where that industry is located. God gave you a brain a spirit and a soul use them and seek his help.

From what I know, fashion is a hard industry to get into. My aunt has met and modeled for Armani, Versace, Valentino, Prada, Gucci, etc. and knows it's a difficult and stressful profession even for the leading figures. Hang on to that job, since having an income to fall back on is important for fashion majors.

To get a scholarship you'll first have to apply to art schools. As a graphic designer you probably have strong pieces for your portfolio, but I think having pictures of clothes you've designed would help in admissions. Can you take classes at a local art school, or maybe another university in the Middle East to get started? That would help with developing a style for fashion sketches and construction. At any rate, it sounds like you should check out art school websites and compare portfolio requirements and financial aid programs to start.

I know a lot of people who got scholarships abroad but when it comes to Fashion Design its extremely hard, since it needs a lot of money.

If there was any good insititutes in the middle east believe me, I would have tried that long time ago but there aren't any, there are some tailoring schools, which isn't what am looking for.

Am already working on my protfolio right now so I could get a better job else where perhaps.

but my fashion design portfolio is a different one

You're going to have to apply to school and get into a program. No one is going to just randomly give you money so you can travel to Italy.

Plus anyone could get a scholarship, because if you want to study that makes you a student. whether you re 17, 24 or 45! if you can convince the jury and judges then your age won't matter!!

Um not really. Unless you're enrolled in a university, you don't qualify. Obviously age doesn't matter, but you need to be in school

I mean, are you tied down to you life there now? Why don't you have a garage sale, then pack up your car and drive to italy

dont have a car, have a bigger garage sale and back your bags and take a bus/boat

then get a new job, I bet italy needs graphic designers too, and slowly work your way into fashion. at least you'll be in the location you wanna be

Its not that easy, am not europian am middle eastern. id have to get a working visa to work there or apply for a job and wait untill I get a visa!

I would love to find a job there and work my way there, but its extremely hard and impossible.
