I fight a lot with my boyfriend because he doesn't smile or talk much

He usually just sits in front of me without saying anything looking around until I say "say something!" or "what happened?"

When I speak he listens but doesn't laugh or smile at my jokes. But I don't blame him for that, they're usually very silly.

He says that he's this way since his childhood and that he's not mad at me or anything. I feel like he doesn't love me enough and start crying and fighting when he behaves like this.

There are so many things happening in his life but he doesn't share them, actually he just doesn't know what to say.

I love him a lot and if we meet after a long time, he talks. But if we meet everyday he has nothing to say and is usually in a sh*tty mood for no reason.

He also gets angry at me because I get angry with him and it just goes on getting worse.

When I break up with him, he begs me to meet him and then he's extremely nice and chatty but then the next day he goes back to normal.

What should I do? I don't wanna break up because even though he doesn't talk much, I enjoy a lot because I love going out to different places etc. I usually talk so much that I keep myself entertained.

I understand that can be very frustrating! My boyfriend of 2 years is the exact same way. At first, I thought he was simply quiet, shy, awkward, but the more I read paid attention to his behaviors I realized he was probably on the autistic spectrum. The signs were subtle but after reading and learning, he most certainly has Aspergers. It is very difficult for him to show emotion and know how to respond in seemingly simple conversation. BUT, when the topic is of his specific interest- he can be super engaged and chatty!

I’ve learned to get used to it and not to let it bother me as now I understand he doesn’t do it intentionally and he actually can’t help it!

Other things to look for if he might be on the spectrum is he may only have a couple good friends. He may shut down in public but seem more comfortable at home. He may only have a couple hobbies buy will most likely be VERY into those. Very book smart and socially awkward 😉.

there is a lot of grey area in between a great relationship and a horrible one. sounds like you are somewhere in the middle.

in my own opinion, like is too short to waste time on less than the best. if this situation is bothering you, and you don't think it is going to improve, then you have to make the hard choice to try and find something better.

I have the same problem here. I am 45 and he is 50. He is intelligent and when he speaks he always make sense and add to the conversation. The problem is he does do that unless I ask him a question. Most of the time he stays quite, not smiling or saying a word. I want to hear a more scientic reason for that. Thanks.
