What does it mean when a guy says he's nothing?

so me and this guy got into a argument he pissed me off so bad. i honestly do love him we are more then friends but we never dated. but during the argument he was saying rreally mean things theen he said he was nothing and he's nothing special. What does he mean by this?

He feels like all he does is hurt people, and he doesn't deserved to be treated like a human being for what he does. Honestly, if you're in love with him, you'd console him, and you'd forgive him for what he said because he was just in a very emotional place at the time.
