What does it mean when a guy cancels his plans for you?

I had an ex cancel plans with a new girl he was seeing, just to spend the day with me. Did that mean anything?

It means he preferred to be with you and not her. How meaningful is that? I dont know, could be that he can't stand her and only has a mild distaste for you... or it could be he's decided to get back together with you.

Hmm... it depends. I have a rule that if a person cancels plans on you and doesn't even bother to give a follow up date then they just aren't that into you.

I did and it's really confusing your thought process. For instance, It gives off the impression your using the fact of your EX cancelling plans with a new girl to spend time with you, as an indicator of some other guy you are seeing doing the same to you.
