What's a guy's intention when he says your husband or boyfriend is a lucky man?

I'm just curious, I know there's lots of different opinions on this, but when a guy (one you didn't know before) is talking to or flirting with you, you bring up your husband, and he says "your husband is a lucky man," does that mean he was interested in you but now realizes you're off limits, is he still trying to hit on you, or is he just genuinely being polite and complimenting you and not interested in you? I'm wondering because I've been told this a number of times by different guys who have talked to me (for example, a guy I was sitting next to on a plane who had a girlfriend but I suspect was wanting to cheat on her with me, among others).

They mean your husbands lucky to have a great woman like you in his life
we guys all wish we had a great girl who we can have to be our
girlfriend and future wife. It's more of a compliment to you is how
i see things I'm the type of guy who would never want girl to cheat
on her boyfriend or husband to be with me , that is why i broke off
few female friendships cause of that same exact reason i didn't want
it to be more than friendship but they were sending me mixed signals.

I've said this to married women before and I can honestly tell you I mean it with the best of intentions. Meaning I don't mean it as flirting or hitting on a married woman. The girl who cuts my hair, for instance, I really like her and we always have a great convo when she's cutting my hair. One time she was saying something about her husband that sort of annoyed her and I just said "he's a lucky guy." I meant it as a compliment and not in a hitting on her kind of way.

One time I was talking to this girl who I made eye contact with when I was grabbing my coffee and we had a good conversation and I asked for her number when I had to go, but she said that her boyfriend wouldn't appreciated it. I just told her that he must be a lucky man and to have a great day and left with no intentions of seeing her again, just a simple compliment.

Some guys do use it in a negative way though. I've heard of guys when they hear a girl is taken, they'll start talking up her partner. They'll tell her that he must be a really, great respectable guy etc. This is smart, because it makes the guy saying it look like a nice guy who's not afraid to admit when another guy is good. But it's actually negative, he's trying to make the girl question her relationship, if there are any doubts she has about her partner, she'll be thinking "Wait, is he really a great respectable guy?"... You get the idea.

It is a compliment to say he thinks you are attractive if he is just being upfront without sleaziness.

It isn't when he makes you uncomfortable as he is trying to solicit your response to gauge mutual interest.

It doesn't technically mean he's interested. It's a compliment to your SO and a compliment to you.

Honestly it had nothing to do with him being interested in you or not. He seems to be a gentleman who actually cares about if you're married, thus deciding to compliment you and your husband on your relationship before backing off.
