What does it mean when a guy drunk texts a girl?

So I have friend who is really close to me and recently we started having sex together. We haven’t put any labels on the relationship because we are more than friends but he doesn’t see me a friends with benefits and he says that I’m different to him. Last week, he went on vacation and lately he’s been drinking every night or all day lol. He drunk texts from his vacation. I asked to send me pics of the places he’s been visiting and in return he asks for selfie of me. ( he only did that once) I didn’t mind it whatever. What was weird is that we were actually having deep conversations about race and cultures. It’s almost like he’s not drunk. He also said how he will fight other people if they mess with me. I’m confused bc I’ve never actually had someone drunk text me like this before. What do you guys think?

It seems clear he wants a relationship with you and the drinking is circumstantial or just makes him a more interesting text buddy. Either way, drunk or not, he'd likely be texting you because he doesn't want to talk to anyone else.
