How can you tell if a girl is shy? (from a guy's perspective)

- does it feel like she's ignoring you? Trying to get away from you?

- doesn't really wanna talk to you but still talks if you say something?

- rejects you if you ask them out for lunch? And makes up some lame excuse?

- mostly by themselves?

- does it feel like they're being "cocky?"

- does it seem like they're just not interested in you?

WHAT IS A SHY GIRL?! What is the difference between shy and cocky and not interested? They all seem to be almost connected!?!?

hahaha! Well, I seem to be answering a lot of shy girl questions tonight lol. Yeah, shy girls can come across as "cocky" I guess you could say.:( But I don't think shy people are that extreme to be considered cocky. There are different levels of shy people. There are the really shy people (that stick to themselves but that doesn't mean they don't have some friends) and they don't talk much. I think I gave off the "I am not interested vibe" to some guys, even though I was really interested. It just depends on how long it took for the guy to ask me out, or ANYTHING lol. If a guy never made the move, I would begin to feel as though I felt more strongly for him then he did for me. I would feel embarrassed, and would ignore him even though I was still really interested! If you asked this girl out and she rejected you, she could be shy, or just not interested. It depends on how she acts towards you. Does she talk to you? Because I am really shy, and even if the guy is talking, I wouldn't really smile, unless he lightly jokes with me. If I like him, I can't help but laugh. I would say light joke with her. If she is interested, she will laugh. Even if she is shy, she can't help it if she is interested in you. So if she laughs or smiles, I would say she is interested but that she is just really shy. It also depends on how desperate you seem to her. If you are " Do you want to go to lunch? do you, do you?" And follow her around, she may feel a little overwhelmed. Just take it slow, goof around (to see if she is interested) then just ask her for something like coffee. Take it slow though. But a shy and cocky person is NOT one! There are some signs to show if a shy person likes you. Even shy people shy in their own not so obvious way.

LOL. well you sound confused mostly because us shy girls can be almost annoyingly confusing. Neways, you basically answered your question in the description. A shy girl might make you feel like she's avoiding you when really- when she walks past you like you don't exist- her mind is going a MILLION miles per hour- all she can think about is you and not EMBARASSING herself! When a guy I like tries to talk to me, I will always answer, but I won't INITIATE the convo, I feel more secure if he came to me first. If the guy I like askes me out or something very personal that makes me feel like he's interested- I freak out- and give some reason to get away- mostly because he makes me feel so nervous that I can't function! The BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION about us shy girls is that we are STUCK UP or arrogant- being that talking to people makes me feel nervous sometimes, I tend to keep to myself, not because I don't like anyone and don't want to speak, but because I'm UNCOMFORTABLE! aRGH that irritates me! Cocky girls are usually very social and have large clicks of friends- some of them feel the need to Elevate themselves by being anti social with people they deem lower them themselves, shy girls as I explained are just socially awkward around certian people or everyone. When someone isn't interested, they can tend to give off a cocky vibe meaning they may be reluntant to talk to you, they won't make eye contact or they avoid you all together. I think what makes people call them "shy" is when they're not talking and laughing all the time, like they're not bubbly and outgoing. Whether they're actually shy or not is questionable, because some people just take time to warm up to others.

I guess people would call me shy, and it's because I don't usually start conversations with people. I smile a lot and I always respond when I'm spoken to, but I never initiate things. I guess it makes people think that I don't want to talk to them, or that I'm nervous or something.

The difference is probably that cocky/uninterested girls will make excuses to get away from you, if they're not obviously rejecting you. A shy girl just might not be very talkative, and that's just because it's her nature, not because you're bothering her or something. But if she likes you and she's just shy, it should be pretty obvious because she'll still smile, laugh, respond, etc. A cocky girl will just plainly try to ignore you.

A shy girl is way too shy to be mean and say "I just don't like you" or "Get the hell away". So they just endure it.

And even if she doesn't dislike you or isn't annoyed by you it's hard for them (at least me) to act like their normal self. I can like someone a lot and think they're really funny, but if I don't know them well I always come off rude or really awkward. It has nothing to do with cockiness or whatever. Just when you add nervous, shy, and trying to say "no" in a nice way it comes off totally wrong.

Shy girls are the same things as shy guys. It is not cocky because it usually comes from low self esteem, while being cocky is the exact opposite. Essentially it is the inability to approach strangers because you feel extremely uncomfortable talking to people you don't know. It could be due to fear of rejection or lack of trust or both. A shy person will usually try to act like they're not interested but fail horribly and when you talk to them, they will start talking back. Best way to tell if a person is shy is this: They will gladly answer any questions you have and respond to things you say but not ask any of their own. Shy people want attention just like anyone else they just cannot actively seek it for themselves due to insecurities, so they hope that it comes to them.

I'd say a shy girl is someone who is perhaps difficult to start a conversation with, perhaps she finds it difficult to just begin talking to a guy and takes a while to be herself around them or others.

I think its obvious when someone likes you. they may not be so open but would still show interest in what you have to say and if she's socially shy, she may blush a lot when you're around.

A cocky girl IMO, behaves like she knows everything or has a chip on her shoulder. Usually this is actually not the case at all, it could well be a front. she may well be insecure/lacking confidence inside.

Someone who isn't interested will probably not be interested in calling/meeting you. or having any 1-to-1 conversations where she's trying to find out about you and you both share secrets. If she talks about other guys she's clearly not interested in you.
