Guys: Would you marry a poor girl if you were really rich?

Hello everybody! My 1st question on here!

My girlfriend is ridiculously hot (she REALLY is!)

She's also caring, sweet, funny, and poor.

I don't want to sound arrogant, but I'm good looking and I'm very very rich.

I know for a fact that she's not a golden digger. And I really want to marry her, but I do notice some mean comments regarding our relationship...Not that I really care about it, but I'm just curious to know guy's general opinion on marrying a poor girl.

So, would you marry a poor girl if you were really rich?

Well this is my answer. It begins with a huge background story before it goes to me and my girlfriend. My family wasn't rich from youth. My father was dirt nasty poor. He had nothing. When he first came to United States. He came to work. He was here legally and when we went back with money. He was barely 20 years old. My father grew up being treated badly and so was my mom. They met and automatically connected. They dated for a month and got married and are still married 25 years. Slowly my dad started investing his money and after i was 10 years of age he finally broke the 6 figures. He has several house now he rents out. He has property in Mexico and about 2 square miles of land. I grew up as his wealth grew. He now makes half a million a year which is great to what he had and he doesn't need to work but he does just because he gets bored. he is now 44 of age. So i felt being a bit poor up until now that I am 21 of age and will soon start making 6 figures also. I make about 60,000 a year right now. Not bad for a 21 year old right. But now that I am done with college. I will be working management at a refinery making a very excellent salary. My girl friend is 19. I'm 2 years older. I met her through my parents. Her family is of a lower class. But my parents are very humble and still talk to anyone. So those traits also live in me. We have been dating for 6 months now. She barely got her internship as a dental hygienist and is barely making anything but she always offers to pay when we go out. I love the fact she puts her part in. But i never let her pay. She is so sweet, caring and very funny. I drive a really nice sports car as my daily driver and I do go drifting and race. She supports my hobbies and I see her ambition. She is a girl that will benefit me on the long run. She doesn't like to wear much make up. She is slim, natural curly hair, brunette, and she is very clean. Her sacrifice in life reflects my families and my mother is picky on who i should date. But my mom sees goodness in her and our relationship is working out so good despite our economic differences. She even buys me car parts and like to go to the track and see me race. She is truly what a guy would want in a girl. She is motivated, beautiful, smart, funny, fun, exciting, independent and loyal. I love her and hope to marry her. Money can play a huge factor but you need to see how your significant other even though she isn't rich. She can fill your life with other riches.

I would strongly advise you not to. I come from a really rich family too, Ivy credentials, lawyer, etc. And that sort of imbalance just wrecks a long term relationship in the... Well, long term. If you are self-made, then you should have the smarts to distinguish people. But if you were born into that circle, ... Well, if you were one of my close guy friends I would vehemently dissuade bc of the inherent inequality and the number of women I know who hide their intentions to marry rich very well. You should have seen this in your circle too. One guy is just crazily stupid over this poor girl who used her best friend (rich, but as kind as you are to accept her) and betrayed her to get closer to that guy friend. She then went to HK to find a richer guy but still stringed that original guy along. He still thinks she's a cute victim of that rich girl, whom I pity bc she was the one who got betrayed.

That's just one example. Plenty around. Would suggest you look for someone just slightly poorer than you, but still within the same social group.

If you are old money rich and she is generationally poor, in the future this could be  a problem.  The opposites attracked is great but sometimes is unable to sustain you for life.  People can be poor because their familes were poor but it doesn't mean they themselves can not be educated and become worldly.  If she is the type that is smart, wants to learn and has a plan/life of her own then this sounds like a great match.  A few trips, books, and she will be armed with all she needs to fit in nicely to this new wealthy life of yours.  If you are new money I don't see a problem at all.  Both of you can learn together, you can show her what you have learned in fitting in with that type of lifestyle.  Good luck sounds like you found a great mate!

if you dont want to get married for money, why does that matter? are you marrying the ones who complain or the hot, caring, sweet and funny girl? plus, do you think she would want to marry you if she knew you are thinking about her like that? like she is hot, sweet, etc. but she is POOR? c´mon

do whatever you feel like, but don't be stupid while doing it, always protect yourself, be it with condom, consent, or contract.

that is the part you absolutely have to adhere to!

that out of the way, the issue of money is a very real (i.e. not deniable) and very serious (i.e. possible deal-breaker) threat to your financial and more importantly emotional wellbeing

the fact is, when you grow up seeing your parents worry about rent or food this is ingrained into your head/thinking and has immense impact on your reasoning and actions

those people usually cannot hide that fact - it is reflected in what they say and how they act

those are usually of the "lower class"

people who had relative stability might be better at hiding it but their base motivations might still be the same as of those in the group above. whatever the reason for this, being it that they were confronted day in day out with the relative riches of their peers but never being able to have the same bags, vacations, clothes etc. or that it was a value they were taught at home doesn't matter - opportunism and "lower middle class" are the words

the "upper middle class" usually had everything they wanted, and they would probably fit your alleged situation best (in terms of risk) because their m.o. usually goes like "as long as you have what you want you don't even think about money"

PS: you didn't mention anything about her smarts - which would be another very important factor in determining the risks of this step

PPS: saying "i'm very very rich" doesn't sound genuine - since you're anonymous you could share some info on that with us, and maybe how she stands financially compared to you

Well to start with the term is Gold-digger not golden. As far as marry a poor girl if I was rich it really depends on the specific situation. First off would her family become a financial liability. What I mean by that is are they gonna be asking for large sums of money often. This is something that needs to be addressed early on so you don't end up without enough money to support yourself. After that is the woman's personality if she is great than I would say that I would and here are a couple reasons. First seeing as she hasn't had much it's easier to give her a good and happy future without breaking the bank. My friends father makes about $200,000 a year but has no spending money or any saved for retirement because the woman he married believes she is to good for anything other than the most expensive products. Second is the fact that most guys out there are against dating women who aren't middle-class or higher. So chances are she hasn't been able to date many quality guys as a result she's more likely to appreciate everything you do for her and remain loving and loyal to you.

So end result if I loved her and I was certain I wouldn't be living out of a cardboard box in two years yes.

It depends. If she is hugely in debt and has poor credit, then as crass as it sounds, you should take into account that her debt and credit rating will impact your life significantly. Even if you are so rich it doesn't matter because you can be her Prince Charming and save her from poverty, you should consider why she is poor. Does she have poor spending habits? Does she constantly make bad decisions regarding money? That's the kind of thing that can strain a relationship in the long run. Was she raised in a family culture that just doesn't value hard work and do you want someone like that raising your family? On the other hand, if she's a hard worker from working class folks, but they just don't have a lot of money, then no problem. Many rich people started out poor but worked their way up.

I'll choose love over money cos love will make me happy for the rest of life as in the condition that the guy is already really rich. So he won't lack anything in life as true love is one of the rare things to find in life as long as the girl is really good, hard-working, considerate n loyal to love
