What does it mean when a guy looks at you a lot but doesn’t talk to you?

I’ve been noticing this guy in a few of my classes who has been staring at me a lot lately. The first time I noticed him staring was a while back, when he was leaning against a wall, and I happened to look over, and we held eye contact. Fast forward to this semester, we have 2 classes together, and in the first class, he sat in front of me, but kept looking back. So the first time he did that, I smiled and waved, and he smiled back. Anyway, according to the person who was sitting next to me, the guy kept turning back and staring at me. I saw him staring out of my peripheral vision, but I didn’t “look” to see who/where he was staring at. Then, our professor paired us up as partners for an assignment, and we didn’t really talk much (other than talk about the assignment) but he smiled a little more than usual, and he ended up asking me a question (not related to the assignment, but also not super personal). Anyway, I’ve seen him talk with other girls, and he seems completely fine. We’re in college, but he’s younger than me.

The guy probably likes you and is incredibly shy about asking girls out when it comes to talking to other girls he’s not interested in those other girls so he can talk to them easily because he’s not trying to go out with them but with you it sounds like it’s a little bit different he would like to go out with you but he is shy i’d recommend try talking to him and get to know him

Maybe he is insecure and shy. Or you are eye-catching to him. Try to confront him and maybe u will get an answer! Is this guy attractive in ur opinion? :D

He’s attractive, but he’s a freshman (which means he’s probably 18-19, maybe even 17?) and I’m a junior

These words are kinda nonsense for me, I'm from Germany. But I guess that means, you are like 3-5 years older?
Well if so, just confront him, maybe it will help.

Oh sorry! Yeah, so he’s a first year college student, and I’ve been in college for 3 years now (if that makes sense). I would talk to him, but I’m not sure if he’s just being friendly or? I don’t want to make a fool of myself

Well, that's reasonable. In my opinion you should just ask him in a way, you wouldn't make a fool of yourself. You don't have to ask him on a straight way. For example this would never happen to me, because I'm openminded. I just confront people and don't really care about what people might think of me
