Is he interested in me or not?

There is this guy I like in one of my classes that approached me during the middle of the semester and started talking to me. Turns out he already knew my name from when we introduced ourselves during the first day. Ever since that day, he would always sit beside me in class and always talk to me, etc. He also once spoke really nicely about me and sorta covered for me in class, and I was really touched. When we walk out together after class, he would always talk to me and ask me about the rest of my day or what I have next. One time, while we were talking, I told him that was going to go get a smoothie (I thought we were parting) and he followed me to the smoothie stand (he didn’t get anything). He also asks me a lot about myself (things like what I like doing, what movies I watch etc. I’ve tried texting him twice about assignments and such. The conversations were short, and he has never texted me first. This makes me feel a bit confused about his intentions. I don’t know what to do esp since I have no experience in relationships. I’d love to hear some advice.

He seems interested. He asks you questions in person so that doesn't give you much to chat about via text besides you've texted him about school so he may be thinking you only consider him a friend. You would have to show more interest to him. Then wait until he ask you out. If he doesn't text or doesn't ask you out then it's like he is keeping you as one of his options. Really not that interested.
