Why did this guy at school walk past me in a slow pace, when he could've went another way?

I have talked to the guy before because he was in my class but I haven't seen or talked to him since the beginning of quarantine, and randomly while waiting for the bus he walks closely past me while I was on my phone, when he could've went in another direction but he didn't why is that?
