Well, not white, but all races of men have and currently used firearms to win wars, independence, defend their property/livelihood, etc.


All people’s of all times have used weapons for all sorts of things.


Humans are a distinctly weapon-using species. This is one great evolution in us moving away from our other primate relatives.


We can throw things, so that meant killing at a farther distance.


We then discovered more and more efficient ways of this “distance warfare.”


This eventually created the modern firearm.

How many people are actually "obsessed" with guns? By obsessed, do you mean simple opposition to having the right to own them taken away?

And why do you target "white" "guys (men)"? Many Americans of all races and ethnicities own guns. Women and blacks are currently the two fastest growing demographics when it comes to gun purchases and shooting classes.

Target practice is a great recreation. It teaches discipline and eye-hand coordination, and it's fun. Hunting is handy. Some people do collect guns for their historical value as well as appreciation for engineering and aesthetics. The most popular reason for owning guns is self defense. You never know when you might need one. It's like owning a fire extinguisher. You hope you will never need it, but you have one just in case.

1# They are a good defense tool as I can defend myself and my family if my house is broken into, or someone tries to mug me. Guns are also an equalizer a gun can give a woman a defense option that she wouldn't normally have allowing her to equal the field against someone faster and stronger then her that could normally overpower her.

2# They are fun to shoot at the range.

3# Hunting which is a good way to learn tracking, patience, among other things and for filling up your freezer with meat that's a much higher quality then what you'll get at a the store and a box of ammo is cheaper then buying a freezer full of meat.

4# Education, you can get scholarships for competition shooting at a lot of different schools which can help pay for college and a individuals future education.

Those are a few things you can enjoy with firearms.

Also guns aren't a white person's thing, lots of people of all races and ethnicities own and enjoy firearms, hell I know just as many black and latino's that own firearms as I do white people and I know just as many women who own firearms as I do men.

Because cops are too heavy to carry around, entirely too slow, and are just as likely to kill you as he is the person attacking you.

What's your plan if, God forbid, a rapist came at you with a knife? Pull out your phone? Yell for help? Who's gonna help you? Some guy with a gun. Or if you were smart enough to carry a gun, you'd be able to casually call the cops to come bag him up and he'd never be able to rape anyone again.

I think it's more of just a person thing, especially in terms of access to them. Guns are fun to shoot, provide good self-defense, great for hunting, etc. It's for protection. I know a ton of black people, Asians, etc. with guns so it's not like a big "white guy" thing.

There are lots of white guys who are into gun culture, I just sleep with an axe under my bed.

Many guys like guns because it is related to our primary gender role as protector. Men provide, protect, and procreate. Protect is still primarily the man's role. I don't think race has anything to do with it...
