Guys, how would you feel if your wife/girlfriend didn't need you?

Now, before you comment, LET ME EXPLAIN MYSELF BETTER! What I mean by your wife or girlfriend "not needing you" is not needing you to "be the man" in a sense.

Even though we live in a (n excessively) liberal society, a lot of men still like to be a strong protector for women in their lives. It's one reason why short girls get so much love from them.

Plenty of men enjoy doing simple, masculine tasks for their women like killing spiders or bugs that's scaring her, lifting heavy things, opening those annoying-ass jars, comforting her during horror movies, things like that. Men need to be needed.

Personally, I feel the opposite way. I would actually hate being in that role, and strength/toughness is attractive in a woman, not delicateness. My best friend's sister, who I've mentioned on here before, is attractive to me because she DOESN'T need me to "be the man" at all.

On top of being almost a head taller than me, she's stronger and a much better fighter than me. Physically, she's got me beat in all aspects. Oh, and she LOVES horror movies and isn't afraid to fight creeps.

What's funny about this is she's Irish-American, so she really adheres to the "Tough Irish" stereotype!

If we ever dated, which I'm convinced we won't due to how busy she and my friend are, I will NEVER get the chance that strong, manly protector for her. I'll never get the chance to lift that heavy thing for her, kill that spider/bug, fight a creep for her, or even open a jar for her. But that's WHY I am/was attracted to her; she doesn't want or need me to do that for her.

So men, what would you do in MY situation?

What if your wife or girlfriend didn't need or want you to be "be the man" for her. What if she not only didn't need you to do those small, manly gestures (opening jars, killing bugs, lifting heavy stuff, comforting her during horror movies) for her, but didn't give you the chance to so?

It's not quite so one-sided as you seem to think. Even if she's the stronger, more active problem-solvey one, it's not like you NEVER would get take supportive actions and ride to her rescue. And it's not like she'd never want you to, either- even the psychologically toughest of us needs help sometimes (though they may be loath to admit it), and everyone likes to feel valued, even to the extent that the one who loves them would put aside their usual meekness and help.

There are all kinds of ways manhood can be defined. Mostly how you behave. Little gestures like taking out the trash and opening jars are really meaningless. How do you treat her and others? Thats how a man is defined. But I do not want a woman to NEED me anyway... I want her to WANT me. Thats whats important.

Personally I like feeling like a man. So if my significant other didn't need me in that way I guess I'd find someone else.
