What does it mean when a guy tells you what nails he likes?

I was showing a guy friend of mine (who everyone believes flirts with me) a pic of the nail designs I was going to get, I told him I was going to cut my nails short and he very assertively said "I like them long". Then silence.
It stood out to me because of how he said it, his voice got lower and everything, it was more of a demanding tone than complimentary.

For him to have an opinion on your nails, it shows he has his eye on you. Most guys will not care what you are doing with your nails. He might be controlling though because he’s trying to tell you what to do with your looks, making you cater to what he likes. Just watch out for signs of him being controlling if you are interested in him

That's a good point about the having his eye on me. And we'll see where things go, he reminds me a lot of my ex
