Why men often mention their girlfriend when talking to me?

What are your reasons for slipping it into the conversation unwarranted? It’s not a problem for men to mention their girlfriends but I do feel a pang of rejection as if they want me to know they are taken even though I’m not hitting on them... I’ve been single for 8 months just out of a 5 year relationship and maybe I’m just irrationally sensitive right now. What do you think?

They are simply ending any situation that could ever be, even if you are not hitting on them, if they feel just like a 0.01% chance you are, they will just shut that down and blurt out they have girlfriend. It is ok to feel rejection out of it though, as that is what it is intended to be, don't take it personal though, it is simply a guy being faithful to his girlfriend and not risking anything.

Also yes, us guys can be dumb at times, as to we feel the need to do this
