When is it ok to put your arm around a girls waist/hip for a picture?

By definition, if a guy puts his arm/hand on a girls waist/hip, it's an intimate position, so, when taking a pic with a girl, wouldn't it depend on how close you two are (not literally during the pic, just how close you two are in general).

How do I know when I can do such thing?

If you and her have been friends for a while and she appears comfortable around you than honestly you can do it than, it doesn't have to be romantic feelings
