Depending on how exactly the situation played out, I'd reach out to him and seek to clarify; he might have the wrong idea. If he doesn't, and your desires aren't compatible with one another, you'll know, and can move on secure in that knowledge. If he does, you can explain what you meant, and decide how to go forward from there. Yeah, what he said was an overreaction if even he DOES have a problem with it, but it's better to hash it out and make sure.
