Why do guys get distant after an argument?

He can reply back with short answers, but not making eye contact with me but he walks away to be alone. Its frustrating even after I apologized for slamming the door couple days ago

You mean why does he do that. Not all guys do that. Some people do that to cool down. When the frustrations, stress, anger, etc is built up, sometimes the person needs to clear their head having alone time. Some people don't talk it out to feel better but goes into a hibernation type state.

An ex of mine did this very badly. She wouldn't talk to me for around 3 days. I found it very immature and childish but that's how she handled it.
