There’s this guy at work who flirts/talks with all the girls except for me.
If I’m with a group of colleagues and he walks up he will either:
- look at me but look away when I look at him, then stay silent
- look at me and look away when I look at him, and then won’t acknowledge me for the rest of the conversation - assuming it is a group conversation.
- talk to me but not look at me and focus almost entirely on the other person/people - even if he is listening/responding to something that I said.
Only once has he come up to talk to just me alone, but he wasn’t very talkative and quickly walked away. Another time, he said ‘good morning’ to me and gave me a jump because he was kind of tucked out of the way and I hadn’t seen him, so he didn’t actually have to acknowledge me.
I think I’ve caught him looking at me from afar, and once he did go out of his way to stay and talk to me. I know this because he had directly asked me a question and stayed to show me something - it was work related but he didn’t have to do it, we’re on completely different teams. And the conversation only ended when it did because I was suddenly called away.
Another time, I was in one of the workspaces (its like a large cupboard/storage area) my team are supposed/expected to be in throughout the day. He came in, as he needs to from time to time, and when he saw me he faltered and said ‘Oh…’ and hesitated, looking directly at me for a few seconds until I was again called away.
But with other girls on my teams he is very chatty and friendly. I’m not sure what I could have done to make him dislike me since we’ve never had a proper conversation. It’s starting to make me self-conscious around him because I have no idea how to read him.
I’m usually pretty good at reading guys, but this guy as thrown me. I have no idea if he likes me, doesn’t like me, hates me, or whatever. I don’t know if I’m onto something, am overthinking this, or if there is anything to even overthink in the first place.

I’m starting to feel self-conscious around him as I have no idea why he behaves so differently around me compared to my friends and colleagues - including the new hires.
