Why would a guy try to get your attention if he doesn't like you?

I was talking to this guy name James this other guy name Alex walked past and said he liked my scarf.

Then last week when I was talking to James again. And Alex saw us talking and came up and started talking.

Both of these guys work at the store I shop at.

I've known Alex for a while and he and I actually went out and slept together once but he has a girlfriend. Recently when I asked to see him again he said he would love to. But he doesn't think it's a good idea. So why is he interrupting when he sees me talking to this guy?
