What does it mean when a guy chuckles after you smile at him?

There’s this guy in my class that I’ve noticed and developed feelings for over the past few weeks. Yesterday in class we were doing group work and a lot of students had already left early. I was looking around the classroom and he was too and we ended up making eye contact with each other from afar and held it and out of nowhere I ended up pulling my mask down (yes we still have to wear masks at our university) and gave him a smile and I could hear him kind of chuckle after I smiled at him. He was wearing a mask so I’m not sure if he smiled back at me or not. I’m not sure exactly if this is a good sign and he was maybe nervous and that’s why he chuckled or if he was uncomfortable but I need an opinion on this. If a girl smiles at you and you give a little laugh what does that usually mean?

Humans do emotion repression. And laughter in an stressful or sad time is one of those. If it is the case, if you gave him an other smile that time, he would act different

Some guys are nervous around girls & a re, action can be a nervous laugh. Take your shot & ask him to go to coffee or something. 😎

It could mean anything. I/We don't know you or them. You're still at school so young adults are unpredictable at the best of times.
