Usually mean people become that way because others were way mean to them first and they see no benefit in being nice, as nice people get abused and stepped on.

Back in Philadelphia, I used to be a major asshole because that entire city is full of assholes. Literally, some of the worst, most negative people in the United States. Although I was that was when dealing with them, like on public transportation or something. I wasn't like that all the time and wouldn't be that way to legitimately nice people (like those who were visiting from out of town and had no idea how awful that place was).

But yeah, when everyone else is a piece of sh*t and the "nice" ones end up on the news as another statistic, there's no reason to NOT be mean.

No. There's enough pain in this world without me actively creating more. And when people are mean to me I try to remind myself that I only have to deal with their unpleasantness for a little while. While they have to know themselves for a lifetime. So who's really losing in the long run.

Well being nice doesn't get you anywhere in this unculture Society so we have to step up our game be tougher and if that doesn't work then you start taking care of your own self only which can feed to narcissism if you're not careful. What I what I get is what I want I will be nice first if I don't get what I want I let them have it and then usually I get what I want. Freedom and peace. Mean is subjective. I would cut off toxic people in my life and they would find me mean for doing so. I find them mean, I find them toxic, again... ALL SUBJECTIVE. What I got out of it was peace.
