Dramatic switch between over complimenting to none?

My boyfriend usually compliments me every once in a while.. which is fine with me bc we’ve been dating for a while but something strange has happened. So for about 1 week he was complimenting me like several times a day everyday. Then the next week (present) it shut off like a switch, I’ve complimented him because I like doing that and sometimes it prompts him to say something.. but nothing. What could cause this dramatic behavior?

I'm not suggesting you've done anything "wrong" but maybe when he was complimenting you he felt like it wasn't very well received... like from your response or a general overall vibe. Possibly it might've started to make him feel awkward after offering a compliment and not getting a response he expected... maybe he started to feel like he wasn't complimenting you in the right ways.

I could be totally off. I'm just speculating from a male point of view. Communication stuff can be tricky with guys.

Not really.. other than he’s been a little more distracted than usual, kinda been leaving me on read more too

Well it’s dramatic bc he suddenly excessively was complimenting then nothing.. so both extremes were just so dramatic all at once

This is something narcissists do a lot, pay attention to that “switch”
or he could be feeling guilty about something like the other guy said below

Your right.. I have family members that have that definite switch. With him though it kinda seems more like he goes through the male version of a period lol where he experiences more mood swings, gets distant, more distracted types of things

My guess is, he did something you wouldn't like and over compensated for it until the guilt went away.

Don't ask me what he did I have no idea, but definitely something.
