Here is the possible reason for him doing it: someone important is trying to convince him to get with their daughter and he does what is most believable and least offensive of saying he's interested in someone else.

Lmao i dont even answer video calls unless preplanned. So i’ll pretend its preplanned that he’d call although I don't know what he’d call about. And well, now that you told me what he’d call about I’d play along. My friends and i used to have eachothers back all the time. I remember at a baseball game, we told eachother that if someone hit on us that we werent into, we’d play eachothers boyfriend/girlfriend or a sibling and say “Mom said go get in the car.” Well one time this guy i liked was asking me out and my now-exfriend ran up and cockblocked and was like “Mama said getcho ass in the car and stop being fast!!” And he yanked me away before the guy could give me his number 🤣 I was so pissed that all i could do was cry “stop!!”
