How do you tell the difference if a guy is nervous, annoyed or embarrassed/uncomfortable?

He looked a bit nervous, sounded short and forced saying hi. I was just chatting to my gay colleague about cycling at the time.

Then if he sounded nervous then the odds are he was probably nervous
