Guy I rejected and acted friendly with afterwards acts weirdly one year later?

I met this guy at a birthday and he hit on me the whole evening in a very annoying/harassing way. He hangs out with the same group of friends I hang out with since moving to a new city. He harassed me by message too, writing “good morning” every day for a week after the party (I never answered). Than he asked me on a date and I immediately made things very clear: I said I was not interested in dating him. I saw him again every now and than through the same group of friends and was normal to him, talking to him as with anyone else in the group. For me the question was closed and we could now be friends. I was just a bit cautious maybe because he had hit on me in such an annoying way I didn’t want to be too “warm” with him and risk he gets some hopes and starts annoying me again. After one year, abruptly and without any interaction, I noticed that he has blocked me on social media and has blocked my number. It’s awkward because we still hang out with the same friends. And I don’t get why he got angry at me one year after I rejected him.
