Why would a guy look at my reflection in the mirror whilst talking to me?

The mirror fooled him. He thought he was really talking to you. The interesting thing about mirrors is that they display an identical visual representation of something without actually containing the thing the mirror is displaying. So even though he was looking at the mirror, it tricked him because the mirror looked just like you.
