Is this a joke or possibly have meaning behind it?

So a guy helped me with some work place problems I had. As a thank you I bought him a coffee and left it in my friends office. My friend said to the guy “ misty had left a message for you in my office” and his reply was “ is it her number” this guy doesn’t know my lady friend told me what he said, maybe he was joking? Or could there be some meaning behind it. Also I’ve bumped Into this guy in a local supermarket many a time and twice he has said to me … that when he goes there he looks out for me, I’m not sure if I’m being hopefull or maybe he’s just nice and having some banter?

Do you give vibes that you like him? He could be jokey if he thinks you like him and finds it endearing. Or, alternatively, he may like you but be unsure as to whether actually dating vs workplace banter/flirting is a good idea and is thus holding back.

When you say if he knows that I like him, and he may find it endearing and for that reason he said “ is it her number” do you mean he finds that I like him a compliment in some way …. ?

Well I’ve bumped into him at a local supermarket many a time … twice he’s mentioned to me that when he goes up there he looks out for me. He hadn’t seen me for some time and he hugs me. Other times he told me there was a discount at the store, and I said he should of told me he then said “ I should of called you” other things like he’s asked me if I walked my dog … then he said well what I mean is does your man walk your dog? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ it’s confusing

about if he finds it endearing in some way, yes. and given the hugs and extra information, i do think he probably does like like you

He's the humorous type, but you wouldn't be the object of said humour, if he hadn't some liking of you. Probably.
