What does it mean if my crush says he liked me then says he doesn't?

A few days ago my crush said that he liked me and I'm cute. Then 2 days later he said he isn't doing great and only likes me as a friend & that he's sorry maybe one day eventually he'll catch feelings. What does this mean? Should I stop texting him?

It means that he is, like many, many, many teenage boys, confused. Crush feelings and like feelings and feelings that might be love are confusing.

I'd respect his space while he figures out whether or not he does or doesn't like you as a crush or as a friend. He may indeed have those feelings.

I wouldn't stop texting him. Don't text him non-stop, obviously. Take a hint from his responses and work with that. But don't stop texting altogether. Friends are good to have even if they're "just" friends. And it's mature to still be friends after crushing.
